Listening to What Your Hormones May Be Telling You

When something feels different, curiosity can be a very good place to begin.

Hormones have a way of getting our attention.

Maybe your energy feels different. Your sleep has changed. Your mood isn't quite the same. Or your body seems to be responding differently to food, exercise or stress.

It's tempting to look for one hormone β€” or one number β€” to explain everything.

But our bodies are rarely that simple.

Look at the bigger picture

Hormones are part of a much larger conversation happening throughout your body.

Sleep matters. Stress matters. Nourishment matters. Movement matters. Your stage of life matters.

That's why, when something feels different, I like to begin with curiosity rather than assumptions.

Ask yourself:

What has changed?

Are you sleeping differently?

Has your stress increased?

Have your eating or movement habits changed?

Are you noticing several changes happening together?

You don't need to know what those patterns mean. But noticing them can help you have a more useful conversation with your healthcare provider.

Don't dismiss how you feel

One thing I hear far too often is:

β€œI thought it was probably just my age.”

Our bodies do change throughout life.

But that doesn't mean you should dismiss every change you notice.

You know what normal feels like for you.

If something feels different, pay attention. And if a symptom is persistent or concerning, talk with an appropriate healthcare professional.

A thought to keep
β€œYou know what normal feels like for you. That matters.”

Start by listening

You don't have to become an expert on hormones.

And you certainly don't have to chase every new test, supplement or wellness trend.

Start by listening to your body.

Notice patterns. Ask questions. Stay curious.

Sometimes the most useful place to begin isn't:

β€œWhich hormone is causing this?”

It's simply:

β€œWhat has changed?”
